World tech giants and successful R&D centers in Ukraine (Part II)
WHY DO INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES OPEN THEIR BRANCHES IN UKRAINE?
Many people remember that literally ten years ago, the opening of an IT business in Ukraine was just beginning to gain momentum and few eminent companies dared to enter this market, but a little time has passed and now almost every famous company has its representative office in Ukraine. All this formation of the Ukrainian IT sector is due to many factors, which we have already mentioned more than once in our articles, which you can also read on our website. In this part, we will talk about several more global companies that have been operating in Ukraine for a long time, and also delve a little into their history so that there is a clearer example of the company's growth.
Opening a business in Ukraine has long been fashionable for many of the most famous IT companies in the world, but what's the catch? Why do so many companies so strongly want to open their branch in Ukraine? This material will be a continuation of our previous article and in it, we will try to give examples of companies that have already opened their branches in Ukraine and how many peaks they have managed to achieve in their field in this place.
SONY
First of all, we would like to start with the world-famous Sony Company. Such a global technological giant as Sony simply could not bypass the Ukrainian market, and now, in 2021, it opens its first official store in Kyiv.
We believe this company needs no introduction, but just in case, we repeat, Sony Group Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation headquartered in Tokyo. It is one of the world's largest manufacturers of consumer and professional electronics. They produce a huge amount of technology, from phones to game consoles, from game headphones to TVs, and so on.
An important factor is that after the start of a full-scale war, Sony fully supported Ukraine and completely left the market of the aggressor country. In this article, we will focus on this factor because, like nothing else, it shows support for Ukraine and its people in such a difficult situation and the goal for further work in this country.

DELL TECHNOLOGIES
Today, Dell is considered the largest IT company in the world. Its annual profit is more than $108 billion, and the number of clients worldwide exceeds 10 million. According to sources, almost 99% of Fortune 500 companies cooperate with this "IT" giant.
As for the history of such a huge player in the IT market, Dell was founded in 1984 by 19-year-old student Michael Dell. Then his main idea was to sell PCs with adaptive configurations - when buying a client, he could choose any necessary components that would fully meet his individual needs.
Over time, the company has become one of the most popular manufacturers of PCs and equipment. But more recently, through its subsidiaries EMC, Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks, Virtustream, and Vmware, it has begun to focus more on software, cloud storage, virtual reality, IT infrastructure, data centers, and digital security.
In 2015, Dell acquired EMC for $67 billion, which is still considered one of the most expensive purchases in the IT industry.
Dell registered and opened its official representative office on April 27, 2007, in the person of Dell Ukraine LLC, and in 2008 Dell Ukraine joined the Association of Information Technology Enterprises of Ukraine.
But despite this, Ukraine got acquainted and began to use the services of the company much earlier - the national bank has been building its own server infrastructure based on Dell since 1993. In addition, the equipment of this brand was purchased by such organizations as UkSATSE, Ukrenergo, and Ukrzaliznytsia.

ORACLE CORPORATION
Oracle Corporation is an American company, the second largest in revenue after Microsoft. The Oracle software maker is known for its ERP systems, user-friendly applications, and practical solutions, which have already attracted more than 400,000 customers from 175 countries.
The company was founded by Larry Ellison, Robert Miner, and Edward Oates in 1977. Since then, she has been involved in the development of marketing applications and technologies based on databases, cloud computing, management systems for databases, enterprise applications, etc.
The company's most famous product is Oracle Database, which it has been releasing since its inception. Since 2008, the company has mastered the production of integrated hardware and software systems, and since 2009, as a result of the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, it has become a manufacturer of server hardware, before that the company produced only software.
Today, Oracle is also interested in smart systems, cloud platform integration, machine learning-based analysis tools, AI, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and many other interesting things.
Despite the fact that the company is better known in the American market, and few people have heard about it in Europe, at the beginning of 2012, Oracle opened its representative office in Ukraine, which helped the company to make itself known in the Ukrainian market as well. To date, the office is located in the capital of the country - Kyiv, at the address. Mechnikov 2.
Also in March 2022, Oracle, in support of Ukraine, announced the suspension of all types of business operations in Russia as a result of the Russian invasion.

CISCO SYSTEMS
Cisco Systems is the fifth most successful IT company in the world by revenue. Its annual profit has already exceeded $ 52 billion. Usually, Cisco is known as a manufacturer of switches, routers, and second network equipment, but since 2015 the company decided to delve into innovative areas related to software. Today, Cisco is also involved in the Internet of things, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data centers, and data analytics.
The company was founded in 1984 by Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner. They created a commercially successful multi-protocol router that connected previously incompatible computers based on the Stanford Blue Box Router.
Interestingly, in 2000, Cisco was the most valuable company in the world, thanks to the so-called Dot-com bubble. The market capitalization of the company reached a record high of $500 billion.
By the way, let's dilute our article with an interesting fact: the name Cisco is an abbreviation for the name of the city of San Francisco. There is a version according to which the original name of the company sounded and was written precisely as San-Francisco Systems, but during the registration process, an awkward movement of a lawyer (or notary) led to a tear in the title letter with the company name. Future owners recognized this as a sign and fixed the name Cisco Systems from a small letter.
The representative office in Ukraine was opened by the company back in 2004, in Kyiv.
And, like all of the above companies, on March 4, 2022, Cisco announced the termination of the supply of its products to Russia and Belarus due to Russia's attack on Ukraine.

CONCLUSION
Finally, I would like to note the company, which, unfortunately, does not have an official representative office in Ukraine, but without that, it supported Ukrainian business. Accenture is one of the largest consulting companies in the world with a capitalization of more than $211 billion. It has 674,000 employees and 7,000 clients worldwide. Today the company serves clients from more than 120 countries. Accenture does not have an office in Ukraine, but Ukrainians work in many of its branches. Also, it should not be ruled out that in the near future, the company will open its official representative office.
The whole world knows that Ukraine, due to the terrorist actions of the aggressor country Russia, is now going through hard times, and the support of world leaders is the best help in such a situation. We can talk not only about the support of the leading countries but also about the support of such global IT giants as Accenture and many others. Accenture donated $5 million to non-profit organizations that work to help Ukrainians in their home country and abroad. The company also stated that it is doubling 100% of donations from team members.
In addition, like all of the above companies, Accenture is no exception when it comes to exiting the Russian business. “Accenture stands with the people of Ukraine and with governments, companies, and individuals around the world calling for an immediate end to this illegal and horrific attack on the people of Ukraine and their freedom,” the company said in a statement announcing its withdrawal from Russian business.
Since this material was the second part of our discussion of companies that opened their branches in Ukraine, we hope that this article format was to your liking and brought some new information about the Ukrainian IT sector.
